Malware

Malware is short for 'malicious software'. Malware is a type of software that is designed to cause damage to a computer or use it in unauthorized ways. Malware can be used to steal data, damage files, or gain unauthorized access to a computer. There are many different types of malware, including viruses, worms, trojans, ransomware

• Viruses

  Viruses are programs or parts of programs that have to be opened by the user in order to run. Viruses can damage or disrupt data causing malfunctions or system failure. They can also be used to steal data or gain unauthorized access to a computer.
• Worms

  Worms can replicate and spread themselves without any user interaction. Worms can carry additional malware (its payload), such as a virus, to carry out additional actions. It can be difficult to tell if a computer is infected when we don't know what to look for.
• Trojan Horses

  A trojan horse is a virus that disguises itself as a legitimate program. This highlights a major vulnerability when it comes to cybersecurity, people. The person behind the computer can be one of the best targets to focus when attempting to gain unauthorized entrance.
• Ransomware

  Ransomware is a type of malware that leaves data in a vulnerable state to extract a ransom payment. This can be done by encrypting the data, locking the computer as a whole, threatening to delete data, or stealing data. Cryptocurrency is often used as it is difficult to track.
